General Summary

A host church is a local Kansas City area church that will embrace, support, pray for, and most of all… feed a Matthew 25 Servant Crew during the week of the project. A typical crew is 10 students and 2-3 adults, you will want to bring enough food for your crew, your “Lunch Luggers,” and possibly, your resident. In an effort to build relationships, we strongly encourage your delivery team, or “Lunch Luggers,” as we call them, to stick around and eat lunch with your crew if possible.

You will meet your crew for the first time on Sunday morning, June 8th, when they come to your church to worship with you. Following
church, you will host them and get to know them by sharing the lunch meal with them. Following lunch, your crew and your “Lunch Luggers” will visit the home of the resident, where your crew will be working starting Monday morning. Then, each day, Monday through Friday, a team from your church will prepare and carry lunch to your crew between 11:30 and noon. At the end of the week your “Lunch Lugger Team,” and anyone else from your church, are invited to the Matthew 25 Project Closing Celebration and Block Party Cookout.

Additional Ways
“Host Churches” can be involved in the Matthew 25 Project

  • You can help provide “Crew Chiefs” and “runners” for the project from your congregation.
  • You can loan ladders and other equipment to crews that need them.
  • Youth and adults can attend evening worship celebrations with the Matthew 25 participants at William Jewell in Gano Chapel.
  •  Note: Matthew 25 groups have Wednesday afternoon and evening off, so there is no worship on Wednesday night at the college.

How being a “Host Church” benefits your church and your local ministry…

  • Being a part of the Matthew 25 Project involves your church in local, relevant, missions.
  • Hosting a crew can lead to a long term relationship with your resident.
  • Your church helps meet significant needs of local residents.
  • Your church demonstrates loving, Midwestern hospitality to students from across the country.
  • Your church can under gird the work of the Matthew 25 Project in prayer.
  • Your church can demonstrate their support of diversity by being a part of the project.

Often local churches ask if they can offer help working at the worksite with the Matthew 25 Servant Crew. Unfortunately for liability reasons, only registered Matthew 25 Project participants can actually perform work on the assigned homes.
